We offer this 16 day itinerary on The Hebridean Way as a 171 mile way-marked walking trail. The route can be walked in either direction
but our suggested itinerary is from south to north as described in the Cicerone guide book.

This self guided Scottish walking holiday in Scotland's Outer Hebrides crosses 10 islands linked by 6 causeways and 2 ferries. The Hebridean Way passes through rugged hills, along dazzling white shell beaches and across miles and miles of open moorland.
Some days you walk-in and walk-out of your accommodations. Some days you are transferred to your accommodation from the end of your walking stage and transferred back the following morning.

Optional Day: overnight in Oban
Day 1: Transfer from Castlebay ferry terminal or Barra airport to accommodation
Day 2: Vatersay to North Bay on Barra  14 miles moderate
Day 3: ferry to Eriskay, walk to Dalabrog on South Uist  10 miles easy
Day 4: Dalabrog to Howmore on South Uist 11 miles easy
Day 5: Howmore to Lochcarnon on South Uist  10 miles easy
Day 6: Lochcarnon to Balivanich on Benbecula  11 miles
Day 7: Balivanich to Carinish on North Uist 10 miles
Day 8: Carinish to Lochmaddy on North Uist 12 miles
Optional Days: in Lochmaddy
Day 9: Lochmaddy to Bernerary 11 miles
                 option to take ferry at the end of day's walking to Leverburgh for overnight
                 to enable extra days for visit to St Kilda (cost of day trip not included)

Day 10: ferry to Leverburgh, walk to Horgabost on Harris 10 miles
Day 11: Horgabost to Tarbet on Harris 17 miles moderate
Day 12: Tarbet to Ardvourlie on Harris 10 miles moderate
Day 13: Ardvourlie to Bailie Ailein on Lewis 12 miles moderate
Day 14: Bailie Ailen to Achamore on Lewis 10 miles moderate
Day 15: visit to Callanish Standing Stones, then bus back to Achamore
                and walk to Stornoway on Lewis 7 miles easy
Optional Day: walk New Tolsta to Butt of Lewis 16 miles moderate
                                                (this mileage cannot be shortened)
Optional Day: extra night in Stornoway to visit
          Blackhouses and Broches (transfer cost not included)
